Rainbows Be Done

Very close to two years ago I took all my scrap fabric and made crazy blocks in every color of the rainbow. It was a great exercise in creating crazy blocks, but not so much in thinking projects through. Once I had these blocks they weren't what I thought they would be. I envisioned a rainbow quilt, but it just didn't seem right.

Then I thought bags in every color would be great. Then purses.

Then I wanted to burn them all and just be rid of them. So slowly, every so slowly I've finally gone through all of the blocks and this is what came of it all.

1 bag
7 purses
7 color baby books
2 baby blankets

I learned a lot. Now who wants to buy something and help me empty my inventory so I can start all over again. =)

Happy Valentine's Day!

These lovely paper hearts finally made their way to my sewing machine after I finished the white quilt that was starting to haunt me.

I love to use up some of the old thread my mother gave me when it comes to temporary projects such as this. The thread is so old that you can break it with a few strong tugs. So if I'm making something that Whirlwind will inevitably break, I might as well use thread that I can't use for anything else.

Whirlwind will use this darling little garland as a jungle gym for her many stuffed animals. They are particularly rambunctious toys.

Happy Valentines Day to you all. I hope you're feeling the love!

I Couldn't Help Myself - Valentine Craft

I was snowbound last week when a snowstorm brought several inches and some "wintery mix" to our doorstep. Good thing it was a "work from home day!"

So while my now napless daughter gave me a few minutes of alone time I frantically searched through my overflowing bin of fabric to find a sanity saving craft to do. I've been wanting to make a felt heart barrette for about a year now. I whip stitched one up and loved it so much that I made one for the shop too!

Whirlwind* here is modeling the one for the shop by the way. I've given up on trying to hold my arm over my head and wait for the perfect product shot after 100 some odd clicks.

Isn't it cute? I just love it so much. If you don't buy it, I will. =)

*I've decided that Whirlwind will be her blog name, because let's be honest, it describes her. This girl regularly breaks things, even classic long lasting tinker toys made out of real wood. You should see what she does to plastic! And when she gets going things start flying. She is a force of nature to be reckoned with. And I love her all the more!

Valentine Day Bags!!!

I've been busy at work perfecting some reusable cloth gift bags for the Seamingly Sarah shop. I'm smitten with the burlap like fabric of the off-white bags, but I could be bias. Take a look and tell me which ones you like best, or even what you would do/want differently. I am always open to suggestions and criticisms. I'm a big girl, I can take it.

New Item in the Shop

Not only did I finish the red bag, but I finally got decent photos of it, uploaded the photos to the computer, editted said photos and listed it all on Etsy. Yeah! I feel tired just typing that all out. But at least I have a finished product after all of that work on the rainbow project. Remind me not to look at the pile of other rainbow quilt blocks sitting on my sewing table. I need a break.

Enjoy!

Red Bag is Complete!!!

Oh yeah! I did it. All by myself. I finished it. It's done. Yeah, yeah, yeah!
(imagine snoopy dance for enhanced visual pleasure)

Can you tell I'm excited to have finished the red bag?
I hope to have some photos for here and have it listed in the shop as soon as I can.

Now I have a date with my sewing machine and a vacuum cleaner.
What?
I'll give details later.
And I'll be giving my sewing machine a wee break so I can try out some fabric printing.
Wish me luck!

Red Bag Continued...

Well I couldn't do it. I just couldn't put that light brown liner in the red bag. So I went shopping. Such a hardship, I know...And after some shopping (and sisterly advice, thanks Kathy!) I found a liner and pocket fabric that I think will suit the red bag much better.

What do you think? The print is the liner and the solid dark red is for the pockets. I even found red fabric straps!!! I like how the dark red compliments, but doesn't match the red bag, yet there is plenty of white to keep the interior of the bag light and airy. Especially important when you're routing around in there for your keys or wallet, but then again, maybe you should've been using the pockets I put in!

I've washed, dried and ironed the fabric. Now I just need to sit down and cut and sew! Wish me luck.

New Items in the Shop

The Christmas bags are listed in the shop! I meant to last night, but I fell asleep on the couch instead.

Christmas is Coming...

Can you tell what I've been doing?

It never stops feeling good to sew. I actually can't believe I got so much done. Breaking it up into parts helps. I forgot my old process of prepping and cutting fabric at night while I watched tv beside my husband. Then sew the next day during spare moments (i.e. nap time). I loved it.

Look for updates in the shop soon!

Big Red Red Red Bag

Well what do you think? Is it red enough? I really have a horrible time photographing red, but to be fair, this is a truly red red red bag. But what do you think about turning some of the rainbow blocks into bags? A block on each side.

Would you rather see a set of rainbow placemats? Or a rainbow quilt? A rainbow table runner? Help me out here. What does the masses (seven people who read this blog) want to see? No one is exempt from commenting. I need opinions and I need them now!!! Boy, I am just asking for trouble with this one.

Until then I'll finish this red bag. I found this old pillowcase at a garage sale. It has found a new life as the bag liner. And I think I finally found a way to make the bag truly reversible. This will be my 5th bag. Each one gets a little better. Just ask my sisters and sister in law (my guinea pigs - thanks by the way).

Crazy...

Now I want you to say "Crazy" like Steve Martin's line "because I am one wild and crazy guy."

Here is sneak preview of the red crazy quilt blocks.

I started off with some lines I drew on the base fabric and then I started improvising. It goes against my need for straight lines and right angles, but oddly enough I love not having to cut the fabric perfectly and after awhile it makes sense to me. I might just be getting the hang of this. At least I'm sewing more seams than I'm ripping out now. That's a start.
